Community Guidelines

Last Updated: Jan. 17, 2021

Hey there 👋🏽! Superlocal is now live in over 185,000 neighborhoods across thousands of cities in the United States. As we grow, we need to make sure everyone should feel welcome and comfortable on Superlocal, so we’ve created a set of Community Guidelines. On Superlocal, you’re connected to people in your city and neighborhood and the nearby people who have similar interests to you — but it only works with a mutual respect and kindness for each other.

Respect everybody

Remember to always speak with kindness on Superlocal. Let’s make sure our communities remain strong by being positive.

Hate has no place here

Under absolutely no circumstances is hateful language, racism, and/or sort of discrimination allowed on Superlocal. We will swiftly ban people who engage in discrimination.

Think about what you write

Cities and neighborhoods thrive on Superlocal when people feel comfortable. This happens when posts are on local topics and respectful. While it’s not forbidden, keeping conversation about topics such as national politics can live on other platforms such as Facebook or Twitter.

Don’t overpromote

While we heavily encourage you to share your local business, we ask that you please don’t go overboard. Please refrain from spamming your city and neighborhood feeds. Also, please don’t bombard random people’s direct messages — it ultimately reflects poorly on your business when you spam and Team Superlocal wants to see your local business thirve!

Use your real name

Superlocal is built on trust — and trust begins with real identity. We require that everyone use their real, true identity when communicating with their neighbors.

Nothing illegal or harmful allowed

We absolutely don’t allow anything illegal or harmful on Superlocal. This means selling illegal goods or substances, encouraging physical harm, scamming, and similar are strictly forbidden and will lead to immediate account bans — no second chances.

Be empathetic and understanding

Engage with posts and chats on Superlocal in respectful ways, while considering how another person feels or what they might going through. Remember that people are typically saying something in good faith.

Make meaningful, genuine connections

This is what Superlocal was built for. Enjoy all the new meaningful, local connections you’ll make 🙂.

Content Policy

We take our Content Policy seriously. Violating our content policy can result in warnings or immediate bans from Superlocal.

  • You may not use Superlocal to spread false information. This means political disinformation, inaccurate facts about medical items (such as vaccines), and similar.
  • You may not share manipulated media on Superlocal. This means “deep fakes” and anything meant to cause confusion about another person or groups of people.
  • You may not use Superlocal to engage in or conduct any illegal activities. We take this seriously and may not just remove you from our platform, but notify the proper authorities when necessary.
  • You may not threaten to share, encourage the sharing, or share private information about another person or group of people. If you don’t have permission to post something about somebody, don’t post it.
  • You may not spam. This means amplifying messages or links in aggressive ways, such as direct messaging lots of random strangers, posting copy and pasted messages into groups, or posting off-topic things to your city and neighborhood feeds at a high velocity.
  • You may not organize potentially violent gatherings or write anything that could insight violence. We do not bend our rules for politicians, celebrities, or anyone. You will be promptly banned and permanently suspended from our platform.

If you see a violation of our Content Policy, we encourage you to please report it so that Team Superlocal can take action. We depend on the viligance of each user to keep the communities safe.

We reserve the right to modify our Community Guidelines or Content Policy, at our sole discretion. If we update either of these items, we will indicate this by changing the date at the top of the page.
